Another humble training - 10.13
Got thrown by a middle school girl and a high school guy. It was such an honor tho kid had one of the most beautiful uchi mata. Learning a lot from him.

Lord provides. Opportunity - 10.11
One of the coach at my gym is physical therapist for Korean national judo team. He has been giving me incredible lessons. This is the time period that the lord has given me. This break was probably necessary to figure my judo and myself out.

Fire against fire - 10.09
Due to the back injury so no judo for a bit. I have always avoided hip thrust since I have disc injury. Today I did it anyways. What a surprise, it actually removed my pain. Lesson learned. Never not try something.

Virtue of keep trying - 10.06
I have tendency to run away from things that I fear. It is something I need to fix. For strength training, it is a squat, as due to my lower back injuries, whenever I squat my back pops and I can't walk for days. Today, I faced my fear and started to do squats. Since I can't load weight on back or front squat, I did zercher instead. 225lbs may not be an impressive number, but it is something that I am very proud at this moment. As I am slowly building my back again. What a day :)
Ok I jinxed it. I popped my back. Out for judo today. -
Be mindful of my size - 10.04
Today, my training partner was a high school kid. He was about ~18lbs lighter than I was. Long story short, he got hurt as when I threw him, he went over my head and landed on his ankle. He got injured. It is a horrible feeling, as he is a great kid, and he was very eager to help me learn new things. I hope kid heals quick. This is a good reminder that I have to proactively be aware of the size difference. Also my technique is very horrible. I have a long way to go.

Inspiring club mates - 10.01
I went to later club practices. I see guys in their 40s, working KOREAN working hours. Still show up, get the reps in, spar. Puts me into shame, it's about passion. I am such an anxious and full of fear, but I am grateful that lord surrounded me with people who leads with action.

One at a time :) - 09.30
Working on morote Tai--O since Summer 2025. I finally hit it as I want it to be. Glad I did not give up.

Thank gosh for age respect - 09.29
After handful days of break due to cold, I went back to training. I went against a highschool kid, strong as a bull. I had couple teammates who played football/wrestling/olympic weightlifting, but this kid just picks me up like nothing. Even after the weight loss, I am still around 190 lbs. What a guy. Such a humble kid tho, thank the lord for the age based respect system here. What are they feeding the kids these days huh.

Missing Basics- 09.25
Its Korean Thanksgiving, dojo and gym are both closed so I am working on shadow uchikomi. Recently, I have really been reflecting how bad my basic techniques are. Although I am only a humble hobbist, even for that standard my basics are bad. Time to work on from step 1.

Growing up and changing views - 09.24
Was never really a fan of going to hospitals unless I had to. Especially after my suspected shoulder tear and taking MRI, it only fueled my saltiness. I used to not believe in pain medication. I was not aware that they actually reduce the inflammations. Since I blow my back alot due to disk issue, after 2 years of back pain, I decided to give ibuprofen a shot as a last resort as I had issues walking in the morning not even training. It worked like magic, I remember the sensation. PT mentioned that the ibuprofen helped the chronic inflamation that I had or smth like that. Maybe it's time to do the same with Drs. Maybe I should take MRI on my back and see if there is smth they can do.

Truly a humble sport - 09.23
Went against a middle schooler today. Kid was strong for his age, but what was more impressive was his technique. As Dr. Kano intended. Beautiful throws. Always remember he might be a kid but on the mat he is a senior. Respect.

Rely less on weight - 09.23
Because I am a heavyweight, I tend to get out of poor pulling. Do the mirror work, I have to pull more to throw bigger opponent. Remember pull more.

Losing the fear of getting injured - 09.22
I always had this fear of getting my ACL blown when performing Tai-Otoshi . This kinda sucked as a Korean lad myself, I can't perform my countryman's tokuiwaza. As I am learning more and more about myself, I realized that I need to conquer these fears no matter how small they are. So recently, I have been performing this throw, almost in a way that I am exposing my knee so that it is easy to get blown. Note that I am still being mindful for my partners, where I am staying low and below their knees, so that THEY will not get injured. It works great. This is what they mean by making deals with the devils huh.
